This campaign started because of a map. But it was never really about the map.
When the UCP rejected the majority report of the 2025-2026 Electoral Boundaries Commission, something snapped. An independent, non-partisan body did exactly what it was asked to do. A retired judge appointed by Premier Smith's own cabinet signed off on it. And the government threw it out anyway because they didn't like the result.
That is not how democracy works.
But here is the thing, if you have been paying attention in Alberta, none of this is surprising. This is a government that has attacked trans Albertans and stripped protections from some of the most vulnerable people in this province. A government that has gone after teachers and public education. A government that has invoked the notwithstanding clause as a political weapon. A government that has gutted supports for disabled Albertans while platforming separatist rhetoric that would tear this country apart.
The gerrymandering attempt is not an isolated incident, it is the next logical step for a government that has decided the rules only apply when the rules work in their favour.
This campaign exists because enough is enough. You do not have to be a political expert to understand what is happening, you just have to be paying attention.
